Base64 Encoder/Decoder
Real-time two-way text encoding/decoding and image-to-Data-URI conversion!
- Choose either the "Text Encode/Decode" tab or the "Image to Base64" tab.
- Text mode: Enter plain text on the left to get Base64 on the right. Paste Base64 on the right to decode back on the left.
- Image mode: Click the upload area or drag an image in to generate a Data URI Base64 string.
- Use the copy buttons to copy the output.
When would you use this?
- When you need to turn text, tokens, config values, or API responses into Base64 for transport, embedding, or testing.
- When you want to convert an image into a Data URI and place it directly into HTML, CSS, or test fixtures.
- When you receive a Base64 string and want to quickly inspect what it actually contains.
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is only an encoding format. Anyone who gets the content can decode it back, so it should not be used to protect sensitive information.
Why do I get garbled text or errors after decoding?
Common causes are non-standard Base64 input, extra characters mixed into the string, or original content that was not UTF-8 text. If the source was binary data, showing it as text can also look broken.
What is the point of converting an image to a Data URI?
You can paste the result directly into an HTML src attribute or a CSS background-image rule. It is useful for small icons, prototypes, or single-file demos, but not ideal for large images.
Why does the Base64 result become longer than the original text?
That is a normal property of Base64. It uses more characters to represent the same underlying bytes, so the encoded result is usually about one-third larger.
Is this tool suitable for large files or many images?
Not really. This page is better for quick conversion and inspection of text and small images. For large files or bulk processing, a backend or batch workflow is a better fit.
