Are Chinese and English counted the same way?
For the countable-character total, yes. Every letter, CJK character, and number counts as 1, regardless of spaces. That means abc一二三 becomes 6 and hello world becomes 10.
Are punctuation and spaces counted in the totals?
"Total characters (with spaces)" includes everything, including punctuation and whitespace. "Characters (no spaces)" excludes whitespace only. "Countable characters" includes letters and numbers only, so punctuation and whitespace are excluded there.
How is a "paragraph" defined?
This tool treats a blank line as a paragraph separator. Each consecutive block of non-empty lines counts as one paragraph; blank lines themselves are not counted.
Can this be used to check Twitter / X limits?
Twitter / X measures tweets in characters (up to 280 for standard accounts), where non-Western characters typically count as 2 units. Use the "Characters (no spaces)" figure as a starting reference, but always verify with the platform's native counter.
